Introduction:
Welcome to CDRunner96! CDRunner96 was designed
to make the digital life easier for all of us. CDRunner96
makes Windows 95's AutoRun/AutoPlay behave as it
should. While CDRunner96 is active all you now have
to do to run that favorite CD is put it in the drive!
CDRunner96 will take it from there. Here's a breakdown
of some of the features included in CDRunner96:
* Remembers CD-ROM data, and associated
executables.
* Supports multiple title CD's and allows
you to choose what you want to run when
the CD is inserted.
* Can be set up to use CD-ROMs with ANY
programs you want to use them with
* AutoRuns CD-ROMs even if they were not
designed for Windows 95 AutoRun!
and returning when you are done!
* Keeps track of Audio-CD's
* Plays Audio-CD's with a full featured
programmable CD Player. Registered
version also supports the Windows 95
CDPlayer.
* Allows you to edit Audio-CD information,
such as titles, and artist!
Installation:
Once you have run the setup program, simply create a
shortcut to CDRunner96 in your startup group. This is
not rquired, but definately recommended! Then just
click it to get going! That's it! Now the next time
you insert a CD into your drive, CDRunner96 will do
it's job!
Accessing CDRunner96:
At any time CDRunner96 is waiting for a disk, you
can access it's main menu by holding [SHIFT]+[CTRL].
The Main Menu:
Change Drive:
Use this button to change the letter of your CD-ROM
drive in the event of changes to your hardware
configuration.
Edit CD-ROM:
This button enables you to tell CDRunner you would like
it to "re-learn" a CD-ROM. This allows you change the
way a CD-ROM behaves when inserted into the drive.
Change Mixer:
Allows you to point the CDRunner96 CDAudio Player to a
different volume control program.
Change Player:
Choosing this button will allow you to toggle between
using the Windows 95 CDPlayer, or the built in CDAudio
Player when an Audio-CD is inserted into the drive.
Done:
Returns control to CDRunner96. Any CD left in the drive at
this point will be recognized by the program.
Quit CDRunner:
Stops CDRunner96 execution.
Help:
Brings you back to this screen.
Hints And Tips:
The Possible Pitfalls Of Plug And Play:
Remember that if a disc is inserted, it will be used. Don't
remove a CD-ROM while using it and then put it back in,
simply because you will run the program again, which can
cause problems (unless of course you want to run it twice).
Unconditional Mode:
CDRunner96 is cleaver enough to ignore any CD that was
left in the drive after a Windows 95 session has ended.
This is essential for any CD-ROMs that require Windows 95
to restart in DOS Mode. However, some users don't like the
program to do that, so CDRunner96 supports "Unconditional
Mode". This mode should only be used if NO CD-ROMs require
Windows 95 to restart. In unconditional mode any CD left in
the drive during the program's startup, will be run. To use
unconditional mode add a "/u" to the command line in the
shortcut's properties
(ie C:\Program Files\CDRunner96\CDRunner96.exe /u).
This parameter may be chained with quiet mode
(ie C:\Program Files\CDRunner96\CDRunner96.exe /u /q).
Quiet Mode:
Another concern of some users was the title screen that
appears at the start of CDRunner96. If you get tired of
seeing the title screen, use "Quiet Mode" by adding a "/q"
to the command line in the shortcut's properties
(ie C:\Program Files\CDRunner96\CDRunner96.exe /q).
This may be chained with unconditional mode
(ie C:\Program Files\CDRunner96\CDRunner96.exe /q /u).
Accessing The Configuration Screen:
The configuration screen can be accessed by holding [CTRL] +
[SHIFT]. The screen can not be accesed while the CD Player
is active.
Changing The Sound Card Mixer:
To change the sound card mixer, first stop the CD Player.
Hold [CTRL] + [SHIFT], and choose Change Mixer from the
configuration menu. Locate the new mixer program and click
OK.
Disc Not Responding:
Some CD-ROM Drives are slow to start, if you do not get an
immediate response from CDRunner96, wait a few seconds, if still
no reponse, simply remove and re-insert the CD.
Taskbar Shortcuts:
Once you have installed CDRunner96, you can safely delete any
Taskbar shortcuts or groups associated with the CD's.
CDRunner96 stores all of its information seperately from
Windows 95, and is a much easier way to run the CD.
Just note any properties (such as command line arguments)
needed to run the disc for future reference.
Using Different Applications:
One possible way to use CDRunner96 to its fullest is to associate
a CD-ROM with an existing application. For example a CD-ROM
that is a graphics collection, can be set up to run your
favorite graphics viewer by using the viewer as the executable,
if your viewer supported a command line option to log to a set
directory, provide that as the command line, and when the disc
is inserted your viewer is ready! You could also use the
multiple feature to do this type of thing, and allow a choice
of graphics programs to be run when the disk is put in.
Re-Installing A CD-ROM:
If by chance you should remove a CD-ROM from your system,
and then attempt to re-install it, when you go to do so
CDRunner96 will attempt to run it when you put it in the
drive. To avoid this, use Edit CD-ROM to reinstall the
disc.
